Without going into long explainations, know that I understand how backups work, and system images work, and how shadow copies work. I use Directory OPUS and because of this, shadow copies and previous versions are the best and easiest way for me to access previous versions of files instead of doing proper backups.

RIght now I use a button that automatically runs the command prompt to create a shadow copy NOT a restore point. I generally have the VSS service set to manual and it will ony run when I run that command.

I am using Windows 10 Pro

The goal is to move or save my shadow copies to an external drive so they are not overwritten and I can use them for previous versions.

I am willing to pay any amount for a program that will facilitate this.

I would like to be able to access previous versions of files and folders without worrying that they will be overwritten or deleted because Revo Uninstaller created 5 new restore points and now I don't have the previous images going back a year, I only have 5 different images from the past day.

Windows Defender incorrectly reports threat in Volume Shadow Copy

I think you misread my question.

I did what you suggest immediately after I first downloaded the file.

The problem is NOT that the file itself gets flagged -- it does not as it is in the exclusions list.

The problem is that the exclusions list applies to the absolute path to the file.

What Windows Defender is complaining about is the COPY of the file that is present in the Volume Shadow Copy, NOT the original file.

There appears to be no way to tell Windows Defender to ignore the COPY of the file in the Volume Shadow Copy. Then, every time my backup program (Retrospect) runs, Windows Defender detects the file IN THE VOLUME SHADOW COPY and complains.

 

Exclude folder(s) from Shadow Copy

Hi,
Is there any possible way to exclude certain folders from Shadow Copy? Like OneDrive folder?

Certain folders, such as OneDrive is not necessary to include and take up file size in Shadow Copy, if we are able to exclude this we would be able to go further back in time within folders we actually need to check previous versions on.

I've tried to add certain areas in the FilesNotToBackup & FilesNotToSnapshot in regedit, and found a note in the Documentation that it does not actually remove this from Shadow Copy. Is there other options here? Only suggestion i found somewhere was to make a script that lists all copies, mounts them and deletes the folders but this is not a viable option for us.
