  1. To use AutoSave, must I incorporate OneDrive or can I save the files where ever I specify

I have previously asked this question and was told that yes i can shut off OneDrive and then save the files where ever I care to.However, the individual did not state how to shut off OneDrive, so how do I do that? Then, once OneDrive is shut off, how do I specify where I want the AutoSave file saved?I am using a Lenovo desktopwith 1T memoryan internal 1T hard drivean external 1T hard drivewith Windows 10Microsoft 365 Personal

OneDrive: AutoSave does not save Documents directory to cloud

I have the following directory structure:

    • C:\Users\MyName\Documents
    • C:\Users\MyName\OneDrive

In my OneDrive Autosave settings I have selected "OneDrive" in the "Choose where you want to save your documents and pictures" setting for Documents

By my understanding, I thought this would mean that anything I save in my C:\Users\MyName\Documents folder would automatically be synched up to my OneDrive?

However, I do not see this occurring. Therefore, I'm wondering what may be going wrong here? Am I understanding this feature correctly?

  3. OneDrive and AutoSave only work if I open the file through a web browser

My computer seems to think all of my files are synced to OneDrive and that everything is working properly, but it's not.

If I open a file (excel, for example) that is saved by clicking on the file on my Desktop or by going through File Explorer, AutoSave is OFF and the top of the file says "Saved to this PC." To turn on AutoSave, it wants me to save the file to my OneDrive, BUT IT'S ALREADY SAVED TO MY ONEDRIVE, though it doesn't recognize that it is.

If I open OneDrive in a browser, navigate to the same file, and then select "Open in App," only then does the file have AutoSave turned on and acknowledge that the file is indeed saved to my OneDrive and not just the PC.

I have run all updates, including optional ones. I've tried unlinking the account and re-linking. When I tried the OneDrive troubleshooter online, it didn't work because my issue wasn't included in the options.

    OneDrive version: Build 24.050.0310.0001 (64-bit)

excel not auto recovering and manually saving

    Hi,

The concern you have encountered with Excel not auto saving may be due to a corrupted file or a misconfigured setting.

May we ask if you have 3rd party software running when using Excel? If yes, we suggest to temporarily disable it to isolate the issue.

Any changes made on your computer prior to the issue?

Have you tried any possible troubleshooting steps? If yes, what are those steps and did you get any error messages?

You can turn-on the auto save option by the following steps:

    • Open Excel
    • Go to File then Options
    • Under Save option, check the 'Save AutoRecovery information in every' option
the best way to check when auto save is disabled is to hover over the toggle and read the reason that the popup tool tip identifies. Simply follow the steps provided in this

    article
    .

    According to this
    article
the autosave function will be disabled when the file is in the old file format .xls.

Kindly keep us posted with the results.

    Regards.
