  1. Modal dialog keeps asking for location and diagnostic permissions at every login

I get this modal dialog box every time I log into any account on my new HP Pro Tower 400 G9 under Windows 11. There's no way to dismiss it; even if you Ctrl-Alt-Del and select the Task Manager, the Task Manager does not come up. You have to select preferences and click on Accept, but these preferences have no effect and the dialog reappears the next time you log on. What could be causing this and how d I get rid of it? Even print screen won't take a screen shot; I had to take a picture with my phone.

    :)

run cmd files should show modal or modeless dialog boxes?

I noticed odd behaviour with the "open file security warning" dialog box, but it can happen to other dialog boxes as well.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

    1. Create a .cmd file in which you call a 'blocked' installer with a dialog box.
    2. If you just Run the cmd-file, you will get the "open file security warning" in a modal dialog box, which is a good thing, I think: The user will always see the dialog box. But if you Run as administrator, the dialog boxes are shown in a modeless state.
In this way the dialog boxes can be in the background and the user can wait forever, because it is possible he/she doesn't notice the dialog box (behind the command prompt).

Is this wanted behaviour or is this a bug?

BTW I am using Windows 10 1809 (Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.805])

    Hello Robin,

We regret the inconvenience. let me assist you.

I suggest you to open Advanced User Accounts Control Panel to check if the user account you are referring to has administrative rights.

    Follow the below steps.

    • Press the Windows key and R from the keyboard to open the Run Command Dialog Box.
    • Enter netplwiz. The following window lists all the existing user accounts along with the designated privileges.

You can make changes to the user accounts (including editing permissions).

Note: You will need to have admin permissions to perform editing of user profiles.

  4. Modal dialog keeps asking for location and diagnostic permissions at every login

    No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
