Windows 10: Re Activation of Win 10 after mainboard replacement not possible because initially...

Hi all,I replaced the mainboard of my Win10 PC and was unable to re activate windows 10. I talked to the MS support and they told me that it is not possible to reactivate windows because the orginally purchased version was windows 7 I made a free upgrade to Win 10 when the support for Win 7 ended.Is that true ? I find it very strange that the activation procedure does not come up with that information, and also the Microsoft support pages dealing with re-activation issues after changed hardware do not mention that you cannot reactivate a win 10 installation if you upgraded for free from a pr

Windows 10 Pro Digital Activation (Changed Mainboard after Failure)

I have had to replace my mainboard as my psu failed and took it out. I decided to use it as a chance to upgrade so as i had AMD set up decided to go for their top spec FX processor and match it with a new mainboard and ram, I put it all together and it
worked straight away and loaded to windows after it did a few restarts and all is working but it will not let me activate windows as major hardware has change. I did the free upgrade from win 7 to win 8 pro to win 8.1 pro then win 10 pro So my questions is;

Is it possible to activate windows some how without having to use the recovery drive and had to reinstall everything?
