Windows 10: The two AA batteries in my Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5050 keep running down!

The two AA batteries in my Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5050 keep running down and I have to replace them every two or three days. The associated Microsoft Wireless mouse 5000 does not have this problem. I have checked for sticking keys are there are none.One possibility is that I do leave the wireless dongle plugged into a USB port that is always powered on the USB port is on an external docking station that drives two screens, has multiple USB ports, memory card readers, etc. and that has its own power supply and switch.Could having the wireless dongle on all the time cause the keyb

Is there a way to set an on screen display to notify caps lock is on / off on the Wireless Comfort 5050 desktop keyboard? Very frustrating that there is no light on the keyboard!
