Windows 10: How to get the snippingtool screen recorder working.

On Windows 11 24H2 ARM64, the last cumulative update broke the snipping tool. Winkey+shift+R opens the mini tool in screen snipping mode rather than recording mode.From the run box snippingtool.exe brings up the full toolbar but if recorder is selected and New clicked, the process faults and an entry is made in the event log.Prior to the April Cumulative update it was working as advertised in both modes. Wondering if anyone encountered this problem and knows the fix?

Keeping snippingtool snip ready


Right-clicking for context menu and then selecting snippingtool and then clicking NEW, is 3 steps, instead of the one click on Snippingtool that Win7 allowed, and that I want to reproduce. In the context menu of the snippingtool icon in the open snippingtool window, there is a 'pin to desktop' option - which would satisfy me if that was pinned was the open window, but actually not even a shortcut gets pinned to the desktop - and even if it did, that is no better to me, because it would still take two clicks before capture area can be selected.

To resolve your concern about screen recorder, follow the steps below:

• Click on the Windows logo found at the lower left hand corner of your desktop.
• Go to Settings.
• Click on System.
• On the left hand side, click on Storage.
• Click on This PC.
• Scroll down, and click on Temporary files.
• Click on Delete temporary files.
• Restart your computer, and then try screen recorder again.

Regarding the Windows shortcut for your screen recorder, follow the steps below:

• Open your Xbox application.
• On the left hand side, click on the Settings icon.
• Click on the Game DVR tab.
• Make sure Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR is
  On.
