Windows 10: A dog stood on my keyboard and suddenly my monitor stopped working. What caused it.

A dog stood on my keyboard and suddenly my monitor stopped working. I got it going again eventually by unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back it.I'm not sure which key she pressed to cause the problem. I can only see 'power' and 'sleep' that could have caused it but I'm not sure why that would only affect one of the monitors and not the other one.

External monitor stopped working suddenly

I have been using an external monitor with my Lenovo laptop. Today it suddenly stopped working. I have tried the following:

- connected the monitor and the laptop with an HDMI cable (does not work)

- connected the monitor to docking station, which is connected to the laptop (does not work)

- connected another laptop to the docking station (works)

- connected another laptop to the monitor using HDMI (works)

Obviously, the probelm is not cable or the monitor (or the HDMI port on the non working laptop since it doesn't work with the docking station either).

I have tried restarting the laptop, removing the driver, updating the driver, rolling it back. Nothing has worked.

Any suggestions?

 

Windows update caused my keyboard to stop working

The keyboard failure probably happened coincidentally with the update rather than being caused by it. You can find out like so:

• Turn the machine on.
• Wait until the spinning circle appears, then press the power button for 10 seconds to turn the laptop off.
• Repeat the above steps three times. This will get you into Repair Mode.
• Go to advanced options, then select the Command Prompt.
• Check each and every keyboard key.

I think you will find that the problem keys still do not work, even though the current mode is not affected by the recent update. You probably have to replace the keyboard.

 

Keyboard stops working

Three or four times a day the keyboard stops working for about 5 minutes. I can't enter text or use any of the keys. I can't open Task Manager with ctrl-alt-delete to investigate. The mouse still works. I can use it to close or open programs, shutdown etc.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what may cause this or can recommend how I can track down the culprit?
