  1. Why change password in response to unsuccessful foreign sign-ins?

Why does MS recommend you "secure your account" when a bunch of unsuccessful sign-in attempts from numerous places around the world take place over days? Would it not be more reasonable to assume that if 10k of your last successful sign-ins have transpired in North America, that some deluge of attempts from Mozambique and Saudi Arabia and other odd places are fraudulent? Honestly, this is a pretty easy example of fraud to identify. No need to alert the user, much less, recommend a password change.

Too many password resets required after unsuccessful sign ins

Several weeks ago I started getting multiple daily unsuccessful sign in messages from MS. Even when no unsuccessful sign ins had been made. Then I get forced password change resets that compound the problem. I will still get unsuccessful sign in messages
when the only unsuccessful sign in was weeks ago. I want these to stop and the password resets are making multiple sign ins each day more of a pain. Hoe can I stop these?

    Many unsuccessful Sign-Ins

    Hi,

I'm Ahmed and I am here & happy to help.

    Sorry for having this issue

Remember, even though you see unsuccessful sign-in attempts, your account’s security measures are protecting you.

    1. Regularly check your sign-in history.

    2. Delete Suspicious Sign-Ins.

    3. Consider updating your password to a strong and unique one.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

Why change password in response to unsuccessful foreign sign-ins?

forgot then changed Microsoft account password

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Try disconnecting the cable from the Internet:
      • If there is a Wi-Fi icon on the sign-in screen, click it and go to Airplane mode.
      • If there is a wired connection, disconnect the wire.
      • If sign-in is successful, let us know in the comments!
      • Also, we can then change to a local account, restart, and re-connect to the MSA.
      • If this works, please let us know!
    2. Try sign-in on another device (phone or PC) via the
    https://account.microsoft.com
    page.

    • If the sign-in is unsuccessful, stop and handle it like any other password issue.
    • If sign-in is successful there, don’t try resetting/changing the password, continue to the next step.
    3. Try using the On-Screen Keyboard to sign in on the PC.

    4. If that fails, make sure the PC is connected to the Internet (the connection icon should be visible in the lower right).

    Thank you.
