Windows 10: File explorer will not default to Favorites or show both Favorites and Recent as previously

Prior to a recent Windows Update, upon opening File Explorer, I got "Quick Access" at the top, "Favorites" in the middle and "Recent" at the bottom. Now, I must select either Recent or Favorites and it defaults to Recent always. Favorites are more important so if I could at least have it default to Favorites, that would be good enough. The best solution is to have it displaying all 3 sections as before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why is Favorites and Recent missing from File Explorer in Windows 11?

Even though I have added files to Favorites in the File Explorer, the File Explorer just does not show Favorites.

There used to have Recent files in Windows 10, but now I don't see any Recent files being listed with the new Windows 11.

Did the Restore Defaults in the File Options under the 3 dots ''...'' makes no difference.

Please help me to turn on Favorites and Recent in File Explorer in my laptop running Windows 11.

We need to do further investigation so that we can identify the cause of the issue. Have you recently made any change/updates before this issue happened? We can also try to export and import the favorites files. Follow the steps below:

• Open Internet Explorer and click the Favorites
  button (Star icon).
• Click on Add to favorites
  drop down arrow and select Import and export.
• Select Export to a file and click Next.
• Select Favorites and click Next.
• Highlight the Favorites folder and click Next.
• Click Export. (Use the default directory provided "Documents")
  
• Open File Explorer and navigate to
  This PC > Local Disk (C > Users >
  "Your user" > Favorites.
• Delete all the items inside the Favorites.
• Go back to Internet Explorer and do the steps 1 to 2.
• Select Import from a file
  and click Next.
• Select Favorites and click Next.
• The default directory should be listed, select Next.
• Highlight the Favorites folder and click Import.

Check if you have the favorites back in the file menu.

  Are you referring to Microsoft Edge Browser/internet Explorer favorite?
  

The favorite that you are referring is Edge or Internet Explorer browser, I would suggest to clear cookies and history or right-click on the list which you want to remove by selecting delete.

Follow the steps on how to clear cookies.

To view your browsing history, select Hub >
History. To delete it, select Clear all history, choose the types of data or files that you want to remove from your PC, then select
Clear.

Note: applicable to Edge browser.

For internet Explorer follow the steps below.

  Open Internet Explorer, Click on the favorite menu.
  
• 
  Choose “Organize favorite”, click on favorite you wish to delete.
