Hi,I have reinstalled Windows 10 on 9th May 2025, and when I logged in I saw my D, E and F-Drives were locked with bitlocker. I tried to find the recovery key from my Microsft Account from https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey there I saw that device was not registered. I tried to register with serial number F18QVJ2 but it not accepting. Please help in this regardAt the time of my Laptop purchase from PI electronics, the people sent a file with recover bit locker keys. BitLocker Windows 10 key ID match, but password not

I'm using Windows 10 on a Windows Surface device. I'm unable to recover a data on my drive which was encrypted with a BitLocker. Here's what I did:

    1. I have 2 partitions, C: (OS), D: (data), E: (data) - removable disc
    2. I've made a copy of a drive D: with FTK Imager v 3.1.1 and saved the image on a removable drive E:
    3. I encrypted the removable drive E: with a BitLocker and save the recovery password in a Microsoft cloud
    4. I removed the E: drive from my Windows Surface Device
    5. I connected the E: device again, and tried to recover the data with a recovery key. The id's of the key's matches, but the BitLocker says that the password is wrong.

What might be the cause here?

  3. Bitlocker key ID does not match the Recovery Key given by MS for recovery

Thank you for replying. Those links were helpful in understanding how to enable bit-locker and how to go through the recovery key process but it did not tell me what to do when the recovery key generated by that process does not work when I type it in. I
have no idea why the recovery key that gets generated does not work when I type it into the PC. One clue as to why it might not work is that the Key ID that this PC shows does not match the Key ID that the online recovery web page shows. I would have expected
the Key ID's to match. This leads me to believe that it might be generating a recovery key for some other computer and not the one that I'm having the problem on.

I only have one Microsoft Online ID to log in with so logging in with a different Microsoft online ID is not an option.

Does anyone know if the Key ID shown on the PC and the Key ID shown on the recovery page should match? And even more importantly, if they don't match, what to do?????

    Thanks!!!

  4. Key ID of drives D,E and F doesn't match with provided Key IDs

BitLocker Recovery Key and Key ID

    Hi,

the Key ID is simply for identifying the key. It will be shown to you when you need it on the device.

I don't think it is shown anywhere else.

It makes it easier to identify the key matching the device/partition.

Lets say you have a Key with ID 00000000

When your device needs that recovery key, it will show the ID (00000000) to you so you can find the matching key easier, in case you have multiple keys per device.

    Regards,
