    Start menu crashes whenever a search is made on a clean install


    Hi all, I have an HP 21F5 that's running Windows 11.I have noted on a clean installation of Windows 11, that whenever a search is made in the start menu, the start menu closes.I am able to click all apps and launch programs without issue.There is no error message or such.I have run sfc/scannow as well dsim without issues.All drivers and windows are up-to-date.I have never had such an issue like this beforehand on any machine.Any thoughts on how to fix this bug.

    It's working now!

    I had the same issue for several weeks now: the search bar wouldn't open, and the search bar within File Explorer wouldn't even let me type either. At the same time, when scrolling for apps in the Start menu, Start would crash.

    I followed the steps suggested here by Paul Abayon, and it was step number three the one that worked for me and the problem is solved.

    Issues with search & start menu

    Hi Chris,

    There are still 3 remaining troubleshooting steps you can use to resolve this issue. Follow any of the methods below:

    • Rebuild the search index in Windows 10.
      • Type Indexing Options.
      • Click Advanced.
      • Click Rebuild, then OK.
      • Wait until the process is complete.
    • Troubleshoot problems opening the Start menu or Cortana.
    • If the two troubleshooting steps still didn't resolve your issue, we recommend that you use
      System Restore to a certain point that
      Search and Start menu is still properly working.
    If all else fails, you might need to do a clean install of Windows 10.

    Keep us updated with the results.
