Windows 10: Windows Start Button and search bar not working at all and makes my desktop icons flicker....

I noticed a short while ago that my windows start button and search function has stopped functioning properly. The start bar doesn't work at all and when I click it, it causes my desktop icons to flicker off and on showing their particular contents for a short time and then a plain icon, and then stops for good until I press it again. Actually double clicking the desktop icons works fine and so does the rest of the computer other than the search bar too. I can click it and it shows up for a short time but I can't search anything. Also, it automatically closes after a few seconds without me pre

Problem that start button and search do not work has NOT been resolved. I have tried the steps suggested in previous answers but this has not worked. Altogether very frustrating and a big turn off to my opinion of Windows 10. HELP!

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

I would also suggest you to check, if the Windows search service is running and follow these steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R key and type "services.msc" and press enter.

2. Locate the Windows Search service and right click on it.

3. Click on Properties and check, the start option has been enabled.

4. Check, if the issue still persists.
