  1. Windows 10 pro VM shuts down sometimes I suspect it has to do with CEIP

Hi,I have a Win 10 Pro VM 22H2 in Proxmox that keeps shutting down every 3 to 4 days. I also have a Windows Server VM and a Linux VM but those don't have any issues. The strange thing is that it usually shuts down shortly before 6PM. There are no other events showing up at that time. I also see the same events in event viewer before and after shutdown/start-up. It probably has to do with CEIP but I didn't find any good information if that is what keeps it shutting down and how to prevent it from happening again. I've disabled CEIP but it keeps happening. I've tried disabling sleep, running DIS

How to disable CEIP in windows 10

    Hi Enagewhyte,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the time you have taken to resolve this issue. In order to get clarity on this issue and assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • Where do you get the notification about CEIP?
    • What is the version of Windows installed on the computer? (To check, type: winver in start menu and hit enter.)

The Customer Experience Improvement Program is a program designed to help Microsoft improve its products over time. This program collects information about computer hardware and how people use our product, without interrupting the
users in their tasks at the computer. The information that is collected helps Microsoft identify which features to improve.

As you have already tried disabling this feature from registry, task scheduler, windows media player, and group policy editor, I would suggest you to check the Microsoft article on
    How to disable the Customer
Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) feature in Communicator 2005
    .
    For more information, check
    Customer
Experience Improvement Program for SQL Server Data Tools
    .

If you are using Office application, I would suggest you to check out this option:

Open Word or your favorite Office application. Go to
File> Click on Options > Click the Trust Center tab and then click “Trust Center Settings” button. Here,
Uncheck “Sign up for the Customer Experience Improvement Program” > Click on Ok at the bottom to save changes and exit.

If this doesn’t help you, I would suggest you to Post your query in
    IT Pro TechNet forums,
where you will be able to find support from professionals and members for issues related to CEIP.

    Hope it helps.

  3. Windows 10 Pro activation on a VM

Thanks, that's what I suspected and it would explain most of what I'm seeing. So the $99 I spent to upgrade 10 Home to 10 Pro is just down the tubes and now I have to spend another $199 to get a valid 10 Pro license. Ugh.

I still don't understand why my MS account shows the 10 Pro VM as "No problems detected." But that's kind of a side point.

How to disable CEIP in windows 10

I am getting the notification "You are currently participating in the CEIP program." I looked this message up online and found that it can be disabled/opted out in 4 locations: registry, task scheduler, windows media player, and group policy editor. Despite
having turned it off in these 4 locations, I still get the notification that I am participating in this program.

How do you effectively disable/opt of of this program?
