Windows 10: Conversion of boot dri ve from MBR partition to GPT issues...

I'm getting ready for Windows 11. First, I have to convert my boot drive an M.2 ssd to GPT from MBR so I can set up to boot UEFI. Here's the problem. There are three additional primary partitions showing up on my boot drive. This is blocking the conversion. Thing is, I did not make any of these three partitions. I don't know what is in them or if I can safely delete them. How can I find out and what can I do?None of the three extra partitions have names or are assigned drive letters. There are filers in them, but they are hidden and I have no access to them to figure them out.

1. You cannot convert mbr to gpt without data loss. otherwise, you can follow directions here:

FROM WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE:

To change a master boot record disk into a GUID partition table disk using a command line

  Back up or move the data on the basic master boot record (MBR) disk you want to convert into a GUID partition table (GPT) disk.
  
• 
  Open an elevated command prompt (right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator) and type diskpart. If the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes, skip to step 6.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type list disk. Make note of the disk number you want to convert.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk <disknumber>.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type clean.
  

2. I'd suggest converting your vista drive to a virtual machine, load that up on your windows 10 system and use a program like virtualbox to run it.

 

MBR to GPT Conversion

I presume you mean enable TPM and it may be that part of secure boot requires the bios to be in UEFI mode and not legacy, before you can change the TPM setting.

Sounds like your system is set in legacy mode and using MBR. To use UEFI the boot disk has to be set to GPT.

Sorry forgot the last bit. The conversion keeps all data in tact.
