Windows 10: I have suddenly lost some important files

Hi, I have a file on my laptop that contains all my textbooks and study resources. I was last able to access the files on the 14th, but today when I went to open them, they had completely disappeared.I checked backup locations and previous versions but couldn’t retrieve anything. When I looked through my recent files, the shortcuts were still listed — however, when I tried to open the files it comes up with an error message stating that "the shortcut refers to a location that has been moved or deleted." I've attached a screenshot of the message for reference.I'm really unsure whether this is a

Lost a REALLY IMPORTANT folder

We'd like to know a few things to understand this better and help you recover the missing folder. Please answer these questions:

• Did you lose it after upgrading to Windows 10?
• How long has it been since you installed Windows 10 on the computer?

Windows 10 does not apply changes or remove personal files without your permission. We suggest you restore the previous version of the folder or drive that used to contain the files you are looking for. Refer to this

page for the steps.

Files are lost after importing the photos from SD Card to PC on Windwos 10.

You can search using Cortana or Windows Explorer and check if the lost files are located on any of the system drives.



Step 1: Using Cortana

• Press Windows icon key on the keyboard and type
  windows.old in the search box.
• Select the search result which shows folder and drive location of the program.
• Follow the file/folder path to check the contents of the same.

Step 2: Using Windows explorer

• Press Windows logo + E keys on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer.
• Click on This PC option from the left side panel of the window.
• Type windows.old in the Search This PC
  box located at the top right corner of the window.
• Follow the file/folder path to check the contents of the same.

If the files are not found, click some pictures from the DSLR camera, perform import pictures and check if the files taken from the camera can be imported to the PC as you have mentioned the pictures taken from the mobile phone are getting imported.

IE favourites names too long to import - need to edit html

I appreciate you for providing the details of the issue.

I suggest you to perform below steps, if you are comfortable in editing html file.

Follow the steps below.

• Right Click on Favorites file and Click on Open with Notepad.
• Edit and shorten Favorite name after the Url link.
• Click on Save.

To import file try the below step.

• 
  Open Internet Explorer.
  
• 
  Click on the Star > "Add to Favorites" drop-down > "Import and Export"
  
• 
  Mark a box "Import from a file".
  
• 
  Click the Next button.
  
• 
  Mark a box "Favorites".
  
• 
  On the next screen, using a Browse button find a file "bookmarks.html", highlight it, and click OPEN.
  
• 
  Click on "Next" button.
  
• 
  Click on "Import" button.
  
• 
  Click on "Finish" button.
