Windows 10: my keyboard types the capital letter z whenever i click shift

whenever i try to capitalize a letter when i click shift it just type the capital letter ZZZZZZ

Unable to type Shift+Z, can only type capital Z with Caps Lock

I have a very strange issue. I cannot create a capital z without using Caps Lock or Copy-Pasting it into text. Pressing Shift+Z does not work at all, but all other capital letters and special characters work when I press and hold Shift.

It's not a hardware issue either--Shift+z fails to make a capital Z whether it's on a USB keyboard, my laptop's primary keyboard, or even on the Windows 10 on-screen keyboard--the latter proved it's a software issue, not a hardware issue.

Keyboard troubleshooter and other hardware/software troubleshooters could not detect the problem.

The only explanation to the problem I can think of is that it's a custom shortcut I applied to some application somewhere but I can't think of any application where I would have ever used such a shortcut.

 

Keyboard Shift key holding down will not Capitize Letters

Bedore I Trash my wireless Keyboard....I thought it best to Post the issue here in case there is a Fix to what I Broke...let me Explain.

I was cleaning my wireless Keyboard and while doing so I push many buttons...some I am sure by themselves, others times Multipile keyboard buttons were pushed. After cleaning when I went to use the Keyboard, BOTH shift (Right and Left Sides of keyboard) keys will not when either is held down...capitalize letters.

I have checked Cap Lock.....it changes between Small and Cap Lock fine. Keeping it on small cap lock....again, when I press any Key on the Keyboard, small letters which is correct. When I hold down either SHIFT KEY no Keyboard ...No Letters Capitalize...they type as small letters.

I tried several softwares where typing is available, shift Key does not Capitalize Letters when held down as it should.

I did connect another Keyboard and the SHIFT KEYS on that New Keyboard...when I press the SHIFT KEY...does Capitize all letters, unpressed, types as it should all small letters.

Is it possible when I was Cleaning the Keyboard and pressed a key or Multipile keys that somehow removed the SHIFT KEY Keyboard assignment to NOT Capitize Letters when Pressed? If so, how would I re-assign that command to the Shift key?

 

Wireless Keyboard won't always shift capital letters

Ok glad you found a fix, I have a Logitech wireless keyboard, and have no problems using the shift capital letters to work.
