  2. BSOD SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)

I have just got Windows 10 on my PC. It is legitimate as are all of the software I have installed (first day so there are really only the most basic programs). Recently I have been having BSODs with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) like every 30 mins.

Here are the dumps (the last in the list is the latest one chronologically)

Please advice, what can it be?

  3. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) BSOD Failure Troubleshooting

    Hello, Amin M I

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It looks like you're dealing with a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the error "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)" on a Windows 10 system, which is often related to driver issues, hardware problems, or sometimes due to corrupt system files.

If you think that a Windows update caused this problem, please open the Windows update history, view the recently installed KB, and uninstall it. See if you can get it back to normal. Although Windows updates generally do not cause system crashes, they may cause some software compatibility, which requires software developers to adapt to these updates in a timely manner.

At the same time, I also downloaded your other BSOD dump file and captured some of the main error messages.

1-> Since BSOD errors often appear in the Steam client or the game helldiver2.ex, please first check the following repair suggestions for helldiver2.ex in the Steam community (including modifying some running files of the game and disable 'Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer' in Sound properties)

Fix for launching the game! :: HELLDIVERS™ 2 Support (steamcommunity.com)

Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

2-> Secondly, from the minidump information you provided, here are a few key points:

    • The and suggest that the crash happened within the Windows kernel itself, which is not uncommon for many types of BSODs.<MODULE_NAME: ntIMAGE_NAME: ntkrnlmp.exe>
    • The indicates that the Steam application was running at the time of the crash.<PROCESS_NAME: steam.exe>
    • The suggests an Access Violation within a memory-related kernel function.<FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: AV_nt!MmCheckCachedPageStates>
    • The presence of in the stack suggests that this might be related to the Nvidia driver.<nvlddmkm.sys>

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

    1. Given that is nvlddmkm.sys mentioned, which is associated with Nvidia graphics drivers, you should check for driver updates. If you have recently updated your graphics driver, consider rolling back to a previous version to see if that resolves the issue.
    2. Now, Let's go back to Windows itself and the Steam platform itself, Usually, the steam game platform comes with anti-cheating software for games. Previously, some users in the community mentioned that it may conflict with the kernel isolation of your Windows Defender. Open Windows Defender -> Click on Device & Security -> Click on Core Isolation -> Turn off 'Hardware-enforced Stack Protection' feature & Memory integrity-> Run your game again -> See the result
    3. In addition, regarding IMAGE_NAME: memory_corruption, before checking the hardware problem of the memory stick, check the memory slot. <If you have two memory sticks, please try to remove one of the memory sticks to check whether BSOD will occur when a single memory stick is running> If you are trying to run dual memory, try placing it in slots 1 & 3 or slots 2 & 4 to do a hardware cross-check. Finally, replace a new memory module, make sure the memory frequency matches your motherboard, and do not enable any XMP overclocking. Check whether it is stable at the default frequency. (Such settings require you to modify them in the motherboard system. As for the modification steps, refer to your motherboard manufacturer's instructions and documentation)

Additional tips about this kind of BSOD error:

    • Make sure there is no third-party antivirus software.
    • Check to see if any operations have been performed previously, and if possible, can you roll back those operations that affected system settings?

Remember to back up important data before you proceed with these steps as some of them can be disruptive. If you're not comfortable performing these steps, feel free to let me know.
