Windows 10: Screen freezes and NVIDIA GPU is no longer available

So, when I was playing some games like Valorant, WarThunder,... My laptop screen got freezed, I was confused why did my screen freeze like this. I tried to restart my laptop by holding the power button, after restarting, I can't find my GPU Control Panel, I installed NVIDIA Control Panel and try to open it but it said: "You need to install a NVIDIA GPU to open this". And yes I have no idea what to do, I opened War Thunder and you know what? My FPS is below 40 and completely unplayable. I searched up on google to see if there's a solution to bring my GPU back, and the result is reset your PC. I

LogViewer for GPU-Z available !

I tried Nvidia Inspector (which is very close to GPU-Z), but it logs with a different column delimiter. With the following steps you can "convert" a Nvidia Inspector logfile into a GPU-Z logfile:

• open Nvidia Inspector logfile (typically "NVIDIA_Inspector-MonitoringLog_....csv") in a good text-editor (UltraEdit ,...)
• find/replace column delimiter: find all semicolon ';' and replace them with comma ',' (in a good text editor you can do this in one step "replace all")
• save changed logfile with extension ".txt"

Now you can open the saved logfile as a "GPU-Z logfile" !

 

Screen Freezing up

Andre, thanks for your suggestions. I performed all steps as you listed and it appears that there were

some problems that have been corrected. I will let you know in a day or so if the "freeze" problem

occurs again. Many thanks for your help --- this took longer than I expected!

windows GPU switching between AMD and NVIDIA cause random mouse freeze

I got a new legion 5 2021 model with r7 5800h and RTX 3070

I'm facing an annoying problem, I investigated it and found it was there about three years old Laptop Freeze Problem but not work for me

Laptop mouse freezes for a fraction of time in these cases and me be more, but these I'm facing for now

I think its because windows handle GPU switching now

I need to know if it's a hardware or software issue? as many legion users not facing it

1. randomly happens when press right-click on the mouse

2. When press shutdown always happens

3. randomly when opening the action center

4. randomly when opening display or graphics settings

5. when windows come from screen off mode its freezes for a few seconds with lower brightness then back to work with the normal brightness



I Tried

1. Clean Windows 10 20h2 install with Lenovo recommended drivers for both GPU

2. this problem only occurs when both graphics are enabled so when I disable RYZEN GPU and work on NVIDIA all works fine and when disable NVIDIA and works on

RYZEN all works fine also



one suggest using this tool GitHub - jobeid/TrayPwrD3: Keeps dGPU on but idle until needed. This addresses the Windows 10 stutter/mouse freeze on dual GPU laptops. TrayPwrD3 runs in the background and stays in a tray icon. Other functionality: single click turns monitor off; provides several menu options on right click. to fix it and I tried it and it's working great no more mouse freeze but it's not the best solution as it keeps the NVIDIA GPU awake
