Windows 10: Do I need to make a purchase to keep my account active?

I got an email asking me to make a purchase by a certain date to keep my account active. Is this legit or a scam? The email was from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** sent to my personal email but I use microsoft with my university email.

Can't activate Windows 10 Pro purchased from Microsoft Store

• Then, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and see if there's an option to activate Windows using a Microsoft account.
  

3. Contact Microsoft Support

Given the error message from the Microsoft Store and the inability to activate Windows, your next best step is to contact Microsoft Support directly. They can verify your purchase and assist with activation. Be ready to provide any purchase confirmation details or receipts.

4. Manual Activation

If you eventually receive an activation key and wish to try activating Windows via Command Prompt again, follow these steps:

• Right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  
• In the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter
  
  slmgr.vbs /ipk yourlicensekey
  
  (Replace "yourlicensekey" with your actual product key).
  
• After entering the product key, type the following command to activate Windows
  
  slmgr.vbs /ato
  

5. Use the Activation Troubleshooter

Although you mentioned the troubleshooter redirects you to the store, it's worth trying again after attempting the above steps, especially if any changes are made to your account or if you manage to log in with a Microsoft account that has a license associated with it.

• Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and click on Troubleshoot. This tool is particularly helpful if you've made a significant hardware change.
  

6. Verify Your Installation Media

Ensure that your installation media is for Windows 10 Pro and not another edition of Windows. Using the wrong edition can cause activation issues.

Microsoft account purchase information.

Hi Robert,

A corrupted game file is one of the possible reasons why you don't see any information with all of your Microsoft games. To help you resolve this concern, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

Step 1: Sign out your account from the Windows Store. Here is how:

• Open the Store app.
• Click/tap on the user icon, and click/tap on Microsoft account that you are currently signed in to the Store with.
• Click/tap on the Microsoft account again.
• Click/tap on the Sign out link.

Step 2: Reset Store cache. Follow the steps below:

• Press the Win+R keys to open the Run dialog.
• Type WSReset.exe, and click/tap on OK.
  
  Note: The WS tool resets the Windows Store without changing account settings or deleting installed apps.
• The Store and a command prompt will now open without any message. The command prompt will automatically close when the Store cache has been reset.

Step 3: Sign in your account to the Windows Store.

• Open the Store app.
• Click/tap on the user icon, and click/tap on Sign in.
