  1. USB Security Key request when trying to log in to an app.

I have a new computer w/Win 11 Pro. I'm trying to set up the login for Acellus Parent Portal. It requires Gold ID along with the Acellus App. I've downloaded both on this computer and when I bring up the Acellus App, I'm asked to enter my Gold ID code - which I do. Then it says that the Gold ID token must be activated on this device. Okay... I put in my phone number and it immediately asks for the USB SECURITY KEY which I do not have. If I click on cancel, it then sends a code to my phone. I enter the code and then it wants to send a code to my email. At that point, there's an error code that

dont have usb for security key

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get better clarity on the issue, please let us know:

    • When you say “got deleted off usb or usb flash drive is not working either way", are you unable to use USB flash drive on the computer?
    • When you say “I don't exactly have a security key", which security key are you referring to?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer
Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

I would suggest you to try plugging the USB to a different USB port and check if that helps. You can also try connecting the USB to a different computer and check.

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article

Error: “USB Device not recognized" when you try to access a USB external hard drive
except Method 1 & 2 and see if that makes any difference.

A security key is a physical device that you can use instead of your user name and password to sign in. Since it’s used in addition to a fingerprint or PIN, even if someone has your security key, they won’t be able to sign in without the PIN or fingerprint
    that you create.

However, if you had configured security key earlier by any chance, you may refer Sign
in to your Microsoft account with Windows Hello or a security key
    .

    For additional information, see
Windows Hello and FIDO2 Security Keys enable secure and easy authentication for shared devices
    .

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we will certainly assist you further.

  3. I have never created a USB security key - so how can I get Windows 11 to stop requesting it?

    Hi Lavenia,

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

In Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers, I only see two entries: Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller, and USB Root Hub. There is no USB security key driver.

I followed the link that you provided and navigated to the section "Delete a security key from your security info", but unfortunately this prompts you to first follow the instructions in the "Reset a security key" section which start by instructing you to:

    1. Open the Windows Settings app, select Accounts, select Sign-in options, select Security Key, and then select Manage.
    2. Insert your security key into the USB port...
I cannot complete step two becasue I do not have a USB security key.

If anyone is able to provice further advice on how to fix this issue it would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Martin

USB Security Key request when trying to log in to an app.

a request for device descriptor request failed

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.
