Before you even think about it: How to change a birth date on a Microsoft account - Microsoft SupportDO NOT REPEAT THESE STEPS WITHIN THIS LINK, I HAVE DONE THIS FOR FIVE HOURS, I HAVE WORKED WITH THE MICROSOFT TEAM AND THIS DID NOT RESOLVE ANYTHING.Now since that is out of the way let's get through the basics. My friend purchased Minecraft, but we found out they can't access multiplayer. Going through their account we discovered a mistake was made, they accidentally set their birth year to 2016 when we made it back in high school. We're 23 now, and they're stuck with a child account. We got l

Changing a Microsoft account from an (incorrectly entered) adult birthdate to the correct child's birthdate

The links provided in the above response pertain to an account which is already setup as a child. That is not my situation.

My issue is going from an ADULT account to a CHILD account. Currently, the account is setup (incorrectly) as an adult account. I would like to update the birthdate to reflect that this is a child account.

This is an easy scenario to test:

    • Setup a new Microsoft account with a birthdate that makes you an adult.
    • Log off and then log back in
    • Go to your profile and attempt to change the birth date to make you a child.
    • The system will prevent you from making this change.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Peter,

To rectify your issue in converting an account from child/teen to an adult, we suggest that you try these steps and see if it helps.

    • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
    • Click Accounts.
    • Click Family and other users on the left pane.
    • Select the adult account and click Change account type.

How to change child account to adult

    Hi Brookelynn,

Your Xbox Live account age will be based from the Date of Birth that you entered when you created your Xbox Live profile online. Once the account reaches the age of 18 years old, it will automatically change to adult.

If you accidentally set up an incorrect Date of Birth on the account, you have to wait for the account to become an adult or create a new account with the correct Date of Birth. However, if your account shows the correct Date of Birth and the system recognizes
it as child account, you can promote the child account to adult by adding a payment instrument and a billing information to your Microsoft Account. You can go to this

    link
and follow the steps to add a payment instrument to your account.
