Windows 10: How to fix this: Windows reverts 'Turn off screen after' setting to 3 minutes when battery...

On my laptop, I set "Turn off screen after" to 30 minutes and "Put my device to sleep after" to 1 hour while on battery. However, whenever the battery gets low, the "Turn off screen after" setting always reverts to 3 minutes. I’ve tried all the power modes—Balanced, Best performance, and Best power efficiency—but it always does the same thing. I also tried editing the settings under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings, but the issue still persists.Laptop specs:Edition Windows 11 Home Single Language Version 24H2 Installed on ‎01/‎22/‎2025 OS build

PC is turning off after 3 minutes, but i have screen saver set for 5 minutes and turn off set for 15 minutes.

I suggest you to perform the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run
Power troubleshooter:


You can run the Power troubleshooter to adjust your computer's power settings. The Power troubleshooter checks things like your computer's timeout settings, which determine how long the computer waits before turning off the monitor display or entering sleep
mode. Adjusting these settings can help you conserve power and extend your computer's battery life.



1. Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press Enter.

2. Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Power.

3. Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.





Method 2:
I would suggest you to restore the power plans to default and check if it helps.

Step 1: Reset and restore the power plans to default:

1. Right-click on
Start button and click on Command Prompt (Admin).

2. In the command prompt, type
powercfg –restoredefaultschemes and hit Enter.

3. Exit command prompt.

Note: This would reset the power plan settings to default. Any customized power plans are would be removed.

Step 2:

Once the power plan is reset to default, you may create a
new power plan and customize the same according to your needs.

Windows 11 locks my screen after 1 minute

On my new Windows 11 laptop, the screen locks after 1 minute, no matter what settings I change. Things I've tried:

• Power plan setting: Turn off display after 4 minutes (both battery and plugged in)
  
• Advanced power plan setting: Sleep / Sleep after 4 minutes (battery/plugged in)
  
• Advanced power plan setting: System unattended sleep timeout after 4 minutes (battery/plugged in)
  
• Advanced power plan setting: Display / Turn off display after 4 minutes (battery/plugged in)
  
• Advanced power plan setting: Display / Console lock display off timeout after 4 minutes (battery/plugged in)
  
• System > Power & Battery setting: Screen and Sleep / Turn off my screen after 4 minutes (battery/plugged in) (also recommended here)
  
• Set the screensaver to "none"
  

At this point I'm stumped. Anything else that might be causing this?

Not sure why it is doing this.

I tested it 2 times and both times it turns off the screen and keyboard light after about 3 minutes. Odd.

WHat settings other than Turning Off Pc wait time that would do this? Shouldnt turn off until 15 minutes of inactivity while plugged in. That is the setting. It should kick into screen saver mode after 5 minutes.

My sleep mode wait time is 1 hour plugged in so that isnt it.
