Windows 10: Backup to an external drive is taking a long time.

My back up to external drive runs for very long time since yesterday at 9 pm What should I do with it it’s the first time this happened. * Changed to a question* Original title: Doing backup

"External Drive not used for a long time"

I had been backing up my Win10 system with the allowed Win7 Backup program to an external USB3 drive which I don't power up all the time. All of a sudden File History and Win7 Backup stopped functioning because the "external drive had not been used in
a long time". I corrected File History by changing the parameters as MS advised but the backup function no longer works. Is this fixable? My PC is an HP i5, 8G, 256 SSD, running Win10 Pro 64. Acronis backed up fine to "My Backups" on the external drive, but
I would like to continue with the Win7 program.

 

Is it possible to use windows backup utility for External Hard drive backup to External Hard drive

• Have you checked the device space how much is required and how much space available?
• Was this system image backup done before and was it working fine?
• Are you trying to backup on internal drive or external drive?
