Windows 10: Stuck on initial “please wait” — forced shutdown not working

My Windows Update wasn’t working. Ran a command prompt to shut down my laptop Windows 11 Home after clearing my Windows Update download cache. When I pressed the power button to turn it back on, it went to a black screen with white text “Please wait” with the clockwise spinning white dots. It’s been like this for over 90 minutes.I’ve since tried holding the power button down for more than three seconds, but the screen just flashes and the “please wait” message stays there. What can I do to force my laptop into repair startup?

I updated to 20h2 windows now windows update keeps saying please wait and the update and shutdown and update and restart are on the power button now even if i press one nothing happens seems it is stuck any fix for this.

Hi all
I fixed it by going into storage on windows 10 and deleted windows update file and it is working now.

I tried to shutdown and restart my pc but both times they STUCK! I left it for 15 minutes and still had to force shutdown

When you say "force shutdown" you mean you hit the power button?

Try from a CLI:
shutdown.exe /force
