  1. Why change what Sleep does when the power is shut off?

In Windows 10 I could put my PC in the Sleep mode and shut off the power and resume what I was working on when I turned the power back on. In Windows 11 if I put it into Sleep or Hibernate mode and shut off the power it closes everything I was working on and I have to reopen everything when I turn the power back on assuming I can remember where I was. Don't give me any **** about either mode not using all that much electricity. In Windows 10 it used ZERO electricity when I used Sleep and shut the power off, ZERO. I work on many projects all the time. They often take me days and even weeks to

  2. The light on the power button stays on even after shut down.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per your description, I understand that the light on the power button stays on even after shut down.

We will assist you to resolve the issue.

This issue may arise due to various reasons:

    • System not properly shut down or might be in sleep mode.

    • Power cord connected to the device.

    • Change in the settings.
I would appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • What is the make and model of the computer?

    • Did you make any recent changes to the settings?

    • Does the CPU fan spins after the shutdown?
As an initial troubleshooting step, (if you are using a laptop).

Unplug the charger from the lap top and check if the issue persists and also try to shut down from the lock screen.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to run the Power troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Follow these steps to run Power troubleshooter:

    1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

    2. Select Troubleshooting.

    3. Select View all on the top left corner.

    4. Click on Power.

    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    6. Check if issue persists.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.

  3. Windows 10 won't go sleep after pushing down power button on the desktop (changed the button to Sleep in Power & Sleep Setting)

Thank you for the reply! I didn't expect somebody would give me so detailed instructions. It feels heartwarming.

Sorry for the bad grammar and misspelled words, I am still learning this language.

I did all 4 steps you wrote above, including:

    1. Resetting power scheme to the default – Now when I press the power button it will shut down completely.
    2. Troubleshooting – Found no issue.
    3. Changing the option in the Choose What the Power Buttons Do page – Found Hibernate is also not working.
    4. Clean boot: - Disabled all the things you mentioned and restarted the PC.
    5. I also changed the multimedia settings under the Advanced settings tab in the Power Options window(I see this is suggested by many people on this forum)
But it is still the same.

Either I press the physical power button on my PC or click the option in the windows power button after changing its function from Shut Down to Sleep it will just shut down the monitors, not the machine (all fans on CPU/GPU are running). And like last time if I click mouse or keyboard, the monitors will be lit up, and show the lock screen which I need to type my PIN.

    Thank you!
