Running out of disk space while installing files.

Example of latest occurrence: I had 60gbs of free disk space. File that I intended to install required 25gbs of free space. Somewhere around 10gbs through the installation, download error popped up, saying that I´m out of disk space. When I went to check Disk C, there was around 10mbs available. Shown at the start free 60gbs of free space evaporated mysteriously. I updated Windows and used file manager to check if some files take too much space but are not shown, everything seems good. I also restarted my device and tried to install again. Same issue while more then enough free space show

    :)

disk space reduced after media creation tool

    Hi Sarah,

One of the possible reasons why your disk space was reduced is due to an unallocated disk space on your partitions. For us to isolate your concern, we suggest that you check your device's partition. To do this, follow the steps provided below:

    • Type Computer Management on Ask me anything and press
      Enter.
    • Select Storage and click on Disk Management.
    • Send us a screenshot.
We look forward to your response.

Running out of disk space while installing files.

    not enough disk space

    Hi Dave,

There maybe a couple of reasons behind the second concern that you have presented. However for the firs one, regarding the shortage of memory. We suggest that you use your external as a backup and store your files there. The hard drive will be the only drive
you can store Windows operating system that's why it's probably still displaying the error. Free up some more space in your hard drive. If those files are important, since you already have an external. You can move it there for the meantime.

Also, we would like to make sure that our assumptions are correct, so we would like to ask you some questions.

    • What stage are you in right now on your computer? Are you able to boot to a workable environment?
    • Were you able to successfully install/restore your version of Windows 10?
    • Do you encounter any form of error message?

Primary step that we usually follow is deleting unnecessary files. But we won't know exactly if we are deleting the right files. We might accidentally delete files that are essential to the system or some of your software. It would be safer if you run a
disk cleanup instead. Pleas follow the steps on this article: Disk cleanup in Windows 10.

Also, please refer to this article: Free up drive space in Windows 10, for tips on freeing up space on your drive
    safely.

And this could be one of the best articles that you can use: Free up space to install the latest Windows
    10 update
    . Applies for your purpose.

Hope it helps. If you have any other concerns, don't hesitate to come back to us.
