How to network XP and Vista pc's, printer, using ethernet cable and wireless?

am i missing something here, are you connecting the two PC's with ethernet cable? Is it an Ethernet Crossover Cable being used to connect the two? You could also use 1 nic setup as a default gateway to route traffic to the other network

• What is the model number of your laptop?
  
• Do you have a yellow exclamation on the network icon after connecting the cat 7 cable?
  

However, you can follow the troubleshooting steps from
Fix network connection issues in Windows.

Also, I suggest you to check the laptop manual or laptop manufacturer to know whether the Ethernet port of your laptop supports cat 7 cable.

But do you have the possibility to connect that network cable to another computer that has Ethernet connectivity? Does it work or behave the same way? Has your PC worked with that network cable before or has it never worked? Type msinfo in the search box and then hit enter, then attach the screenshot of the System Information page. Go to Device Manager expand network adapters post the screenshot.
