Windows 10: Notepad Jumplist Issue

Not sure when it started, but although all other jumplists are working perfectly, the one for Notepad isn't.Basically, whenever I try to re-open a recent file from the jumplist, I get the "this item is unavailable. do you want to delete it?" prompt. Also the icon is blank.Word, Excel, NitroPDF, etc. all still work as they should. As I said, Notepad is the only program affected. Which is just weird!

Right clicking pinned Notepad on taskbar shows duplicate items

Please try resetting the Notepad jumplist completely.

To do so, open Command Prompt and run the following command exactly:

• del "%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations\9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.*"
  

Press Enter.

This resets the Notepad jumplist, clearing every item in the list. A fresh database will be generated.

 

Help me remove an entry from a jumplist.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the second, and deleted three shortcuts to the same Notepad document. Unhappily, it did not work. After a reboot the offending link remains stubbornly in the jumplist.

I am reluctant to delete the entire contents of the Automatic Destinations folder. But I will see if I can identify "the one mentioning notepad.exe." I still wonder about the wisdom of "breaking" the associations. Will the list just be re-created?

 

Pinning a Notepad file to taskbar.

This is no longer possible, but there is a small different due to a feature called Jumplist. If you keep the Notepad shortcut pinned to the Taskbar, you should be able to access the frequently accessed file from the Notepad jump list. Just right click
Notepad and you should see the file, you can pin it within the list so its always available.
