I’m dealing with a persistent boot issue after a scanner firmware update due to a security patch and installing Windows 11 24H2 December 2024 edition via USB on my MSI motherboard using MSI Flash 5 BIOS.Here’s what’s happening:Firmware Issue:My scanner needed a firmware update for a security patch, but after updating, it stopped working.Windows 11 USB Installation:I created a bootable USB with the most recent Windows 11 24H2 ISO December 2024 update and did a clean install. I realize now I could have used a virtual machine, but I went with a direct USB boot.USB Boot and BIOS Settings

  2. Windows 11 usb boot issue

    Hi, Richard Collins3

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If your Windows 11 USB is not being recognized as a bootable device, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check USB Format and Partition Style: Ensure that the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 and uses a GPT partition style, as this is required for UEFI boot.
    2. BIOS/UEFI Settings:
      • Ensure that the USB drive is recognized in the BIOS/UEFI.
      • Check if the USB boot is enabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
      • If your PC supports UEFI, make sure it's not set to Legacy or CSM boot mode.
      • Check the boot order to ensure the USB drive is listed as the first boot device.
    3. Fast Boot: Disable Fast Boot in the BIOS/UEFI settings, as this can sometimes prevent the system from recognizing bootable USB drives.
    4. Create a New Bootable USB: If you have access to another Windows machine, you can try creating a new bootable USB using the Windows Media Creation Tool.
      • After downloading, run the media creation tool. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
      • If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
      • On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
      • Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit) for Windows 11.
      • Select which media you want to use:
      • USB flash drive: Attach a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
    5. Check for Hardware Issues: There might be a hardware issue with the USB ports or the motherboard. Test the USB on another computer to ensure it's working correctly. You can also try plugging the USB into a different port. Sometimes certain ports do not support booting.
Please remember to back up any important data from your Ubuntu installation before attempting to install Windows 11, as the installation process will erase all data on the hard drive.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

Booting from USB on x38 Motherboard, NOT?

    Solved

I realised that the USB drive has to be installed before going into the BIOS and selecting it as an option!

Booting from USB on x38 Motherboard, NOT?

See sys specs... ASUS ROG x38 motherboard, flashed to x48 Rampage.

In BIOS under "Boot Device Priority", I select and of the 3 boot device slots, and no where do I find an option for USB, these are the only options in each:

    • 1st floopy drive
    • HDD: P0-WDC WD2500KS
    • ATAPI CD-ROM
    • Disabled
Is there a place in the BIOS to enable boot from USB?

It's AMI, says v02.61 on the BIOS screen
