  1. Should Service Host: Device Association Service be using over 1GB of Ram

I have a Lenovo Legion 7i and have loved it. Recently when I am gaming, a message pops up saying that there is not enough memory. After opening the task manager, it shows that the Service Host: Device Association Service is using over 1GB of Ram. After doing some research on it, I went ahead and started unplugging things like my keyboard, monitor etc. and there is no change. Is this something that is normal?

    :)

  2. Service Host: Device Association Service Causing RAM usage spike

In reference to this question here, I have more information to add to it. Yes, the question is from a few years back, but I had come across this a few times recently with customers that I work with.

In my customer's case, it was not causing CPU usage spikes, but more RAM usage spikes. This was caused from a USB Bluetooth adapter we had installed for her last year so she could connect a set of Bluetooth headphones. Today, she was experiencing slowness issues with her PC and after some digging, I found that this process: Service Host: Device Association Service was using about 50% to 55% of 1GB of total memory all on its own. She has 8GB total RAM memory installed currently. In comparison, Teams on her PC uses between a 25% to 50% of 1GB of total memory, depending on a few factors, like video calls. My fix for her was simply turning the Bluetooth radio off, which immediately relieved RAM usage and showed an increased in PC responsiveness.

I felt that this needed to be shared more or less because it seems USB Bluetooth adapters have the potential to cause spikes in RAM usage. Apart from that, it seems lately that recent Windows updates also do the same and peg users using 8GB of total RAM about 65% to 75% on average with just email and a browser open (mostly our customers). Another thing to note, we primarily use Dell products, as we are a Partner/Reseller. I have not confirmed these Windows or Bluetooth issues on other machines from other manufacturers.

  3. Browser /connection security, hosts file and DNS service

You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
This means the hosts file is moot?

And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?

  4. Should Service Host: Device Association Service be using over 1GB of Ram

    Device Association Framework Provider Host

I have read that and I understand that but it reads Device Association Framework Provider Host is an official Microsoft core process that runs under the LOCAL SERVICE account. Why is one under Network Service why is not both under Local Service
