  1. PC Instantly Wakes After Shutdown/Sleep/Hibernate — Wake Source Unknown Windows-Only Issue

ProblemWhenever I put my PC to sleep, hibernate, or even shut it down, it seems to go off fans stop, power LED goes off, you can even hear a "click" but then it immediately turns itself back on after 1-2 seconds. It doesn't matter which power state I choose, the system just wakes back up unprompted. What I've Tried:Checked Event Viewer [Filtered For Power-Troubleshooter Source] Every wake event says "Wake Source: Unknown"Ran: `powercfg -lastwake` --> Returns "Wake History Count - 0" `powercfg /devicequery wake_armed` --> Returns "NONE" `powercfg /waketimers` --> Retur

  2. Wake Source Unknown: Wake Timer Settings?

I’m having an issue whereby after putting my PC to sleep it always wakes up after only 10-20 seconds. Within the Event Viewer the wake source is listed as unknown. Interestingly, when I put the PC back to sleep a second time it remains sound asleep until I actively wake it.

I have disabled all devices from being allowed to wake my computer except for my eHome Infrared receiver (UBSCIR). I have removed all unnecessary peripherals (external storage, headphones, etc.). I have no Windows updates pending.

I started to diagnose the problem by resetting my power plan back to its default settings. I then disabled wake timers and this fixed the problem, albeit only temporarily. If I restart my PC it goes back to waking up after only a few seconds even though the wake timer settings remain listed as disabled.

I’d rather not have to reset my power plan to its default settings every time I restart my PC. If anyone has any ideas as to what may be going on or how to go about trying to diagnose the cause of the issue I’m all ears because I haven’t found anyone else online experiencing this specific issue.

  4. PC Instantly Wakes After Shutdown/Sleep/Hibernate — Wake Source Unknown Windows-Only Issue

PC wakes up from sleep instead of hibernating

    Hello Ms Community,

I have an interesting problem I need your help with.

As in the title, my PC is set up to turn screen off after 15 min, go to sleep after 30 min and finally hibernate after 120 min of inactivity. It does the first 2 things without a hitch, but has problems with hibernating; Rather than going into deep sleep, it powers up again and stays active.

After the failure, if i leave it be, sometimes it goes back to sleep and later succesfully hibernates, or it does not go to sleep at all and just stays active (screen does turn off though).

I've scoured the forums for answers and I could not find any, however I’ve learned a few things to help me pinpoint the issue. Sadly I am no closer to resolving it by myself, so I kindly ask for your help.

What I did was, I made sure that:

    • There are no active wake alarms (confirmed with powercfg)
    • LAN is set to not wake the PC
    • Updates etc are not to run when in low power mode
    • Power plan is set not to allow any wakes to occur

I’ve ran powercfg /lastwake and it always comes back with the same info:

    C:\Windows\System32>powercfg /lastwake

    Wake History Count - 1

    Wake History [0]

    Wake Source Count - 1

    Wake Source [0]

    Type: Device

    Instance Path: ACPI\ACPI000E\2&daba3ff&0

    Friendly Name:

    Description: ACPI Wake Alarm

    Manufacturer: (Standard system devices)

    However using /waketimers shows:

    C:\Windows\System32>powercfg /waketimers

There are no active wake timers in the system.

I also did sleep study and I see the moment it wakes up, but can’t really read any more info from it since the exit reason is either “--------------” or “Unknown”

That’s as far as I got and I am not sure what else to try, I am pretty sure neither my keyboard or mouse wakes it up since no one is touching them and they are both on a even surface.

I can provide a copy of the sleep study report if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Paw
