Windows 10: MSKLC error: Keyboard layout glitch

I created a new keyboard layout on windows 11 with MSKLC using Yi characters just to test out the application. I filled out the properties. I then tested the layout and it worked perfectly fine. I then validated the layout and bult the DLL and Setup Package. After running the setup.exe the keyboard showed up in my language bar as normal, but when i switched to the custom keyboard, my entire computer immediately froze and then automatically switched back to my default language English. Is there a way to fix this???

I appreciate your efforts on this. I see that you are using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator to create keyboard layouts. I would like to inform that this is an old program, which was initially designed to work on Windows XP computers.



Good to know that the program is working for you. One of the thing I would suggest you to try is to change the description of the keyboard layout that you have created and see if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator.
   
2. Click on File and load the keyboard layout.
   
3. Click on Project, and click on
   Properties.
   
4. Change the Description of the keyboard layout.
   
5. Click on OK.
   

If this doesn’t work, you may try rebuilding the DLL and Setup Package. After rebuilding the DLL and Setup Package go to Start >> Settings >> Time & Language >> Language >> Click on the language pack and select
options, now click on the old keyboard layout and select
Remove.

Keyboard layout: reading and typing language are now one and the same?


This sounds rather lame. I wonder what happens when you select a multilingual keyboard layout? I make use of the US International keyboard (I like it better than the Canadian Multilingual Standard layout), I just haven't gotten around to setting it up yet.

In the past I have made use of the MSKLC tool for creating my own keyboard layouts, most recently for Esperanto when I was working on the Duolingo tree. The Microsoft website lists several operating systems the tool is compatible with up to Windows 7, but I found no issues using it with Windows 8.1.

Last I checked with 8.1 you had to select a pre-existing language on the system. Theoretically, as the MSKLC would allow you to duplicate the German keyboard layout and select English as the language of your layout, it may be possible that Windows 10 would handle this as though it's English and thus give you the English interface. Assuming of course that the MSKLC even works in Windows 10.

Thank you for responding, Greg. My question is not about adding a keyboard. My question is about restoring the original Chinese keyboard. I used the Chinese keyboard layout to create a different language keyboard in MSKLC. How can I restore the original Chinese keyboard?
