Windows 10: Taskbar does not pop up when a window is open.

Posted May 30, 2025.Yesterday.... My HP Spectre did a BIOS update. Since then my taskbar, which is checked for hide the task bar, does not pop up when any window is open.I have unchecked the hide taskbar, restarted my system. Re checked the hide my task bar, restarted again. All to no avail. It pops up fine when no windows are open.If you need to ask me anything technical i.e. what is your BIOS system please direct me in simple steps as I need that level of direction.To me it seems, 'well the BIOS update has done something'. But what it has done and is there a fix??Thanks.

Are you referring to taskbar preview window pop-ups?



If yes, there is no option to disable the taskbar window pop-ups when you hover the mouse, this is by design.

However you may Auto-hide taskbar by following the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Right click on the taskbar and select properties.
  
• 
  In the Taskbar tab, Place a tick mark for Auto-hide the taskbar.

• Go to Start, enter the phrase Windows Feedback, and then select Windows Feedback.
• See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft Music.

• To narrow your search to a specific category, pick the category that most closely matches your feedback (so it gets to the right people quickly). For example, for feedback about the Music app, select Apps > Music.

Help!, windows taskbar disapeared!!!

Try Ctrl+Esc.

If Recycle Bin is the only icon you can see, open it, from the explorer window navigate to Control Panel and find Taskbar settings there.
