    Windows 11 fresh install wiped key on second hand laptop and no sticker on device with key....


    I was given a laptop that had been a business laptop since my company went bankrupt and shut down. This laptop was running Windows, but we had to wipe the hard drive with a fresh Windows 11 install, which wiped the original key. How do I recover the key or activate the code?

    Fresh Install of Win 10 without Serial Key?

    If the key is embedded (look for a windows sticker underneath the laptop) than it would actually perform activation automatically with a big chance of never asking you for a product key during installation.

    source: did it about 50 times so far with WIN8-era laptops

    product key on second-hand laptop - can i use it?

    I have purchased second-hand Lenovo laptop from ebay. There was no OS installed, but there is Windows 7 Pro COA sticker with product key. Can I legally use this product key? Can I install Windows 10 and activate it with this product key?

    Install Windows 7 with SPL key

    personally since it's an older laptop I'd just install a linux distro of your choice and be done w/ it. Unless it has to have windows back on it, but you've already wiped the previous copy off the drive and the only app I use to get keys has to be used in running windows.
