Windows 10: Windows 11 Security permissions for folder do not apply to files and subfolders.

Hi, I've been having issues with setting permissions to user groups in a specific folder and its subfolders. I opened the properties window of the folder and changed the permissions for the user group EVERYONE, saved and applied the new settings and despite that the files and subfolders inside the main folder have the old permissions still available.Anyone has any idea why is it doing that and what can be done to change that? I've already found out I can manually change each and every file to the needed permissions, but that's 24 folders like this with about 100 files and subfolders each.

Windows folder security.

Is there a way to disable ALL windows security on folders? I'm using Windows 7 and trying to replace some system files that may be currupt and I get the "You need permission..." bitching from Windows. I know I can take ownership of the folder through the security tab but it's getting REALLY old having to do this for each and every file and folder I'm trying to overwrite. *Bang Head :banghead:

I'm the administrator for christ sake. If I want to open my drive and take a crap in it, do I need permission from Microsoft?

 

How to change security permissions on multiple photos?

1. Take Ownership of the Entire Photo Folder:
   
   • Right-click on the folder containing the photos and select "Properties."
     
   • Go to the "Security" tab and click on "Advanced."
     
   • Click on "Change" next to the owner's name and type your username in the box, then click "Check Names" and "OK."
     
   • Check the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click "Apply" and then "OK."
     
2. Change Permissions for the Entire Folder:
   
   • Go back to the "Security" tab in the folder's properties and click "Edit."
     
   • Select your user account from the list and click "Edit."
     
   • Check the box that says "Full Control" and click "Apply" and then "OK."
     
3. Apply Permissions to All Files and Subfolders:
   
   • Once you have taken ownership and changed the permissions for the entire folder, you can apply these changes to all files and subfolders within it.
     
   • Go back to the "Security" tab and click "Advanced."
     
   • Check the box that says "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" and click "Apply" and then "OK."
     

By following these steps, you should be able to take ownership of the entire photo folder, change the permissions for the folder and its contents, and ensure that you have access to all the photos within it.

No permissions

Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

• Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
  
• Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
• Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
  

This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
