Windows 10: Why can't my partner and I play lan/multilplayer Minecraft?

Every time my partner and I try to play Minecraft together via lan, we get the "getsockopt" error message. We used to be able to play together before he got a new computer and before we got a new router. We have tried everything we could find to attempt to fix this issue; this has been going on for 6+ months now. We both are running Windows 11, and have updated java. We are not using any mods. We have tried:- disabling windows firewall- allowing java and minecraft through the firewall- portforwarding minecraft- resetting our router- tried a different router on the same network- changing our ne

Playing Minecraft 1.2.13 via a LAN

I have two children and they're trying to plan Minecraft 1.2.13 (Windows 10) via the LAN.

They are connected to the same wifi router. The computers are set to discoverable over the private network.

When one of them is playing and the other tries to join their game, the message that they see is that in order to join the game they have to change their settings in Xbox live.

How do they get an option to use "Connect via LAN" if they're on the same private network? I was hoping that they don't have to login to Xbox live in order to play Minecraft with each other.

Homegroup For Minecraft Servers Or What?

It looks as if the existing minecraft server will use the new system without modification - It needs to be able to access the computers on the network in a two way link, which is the standard for Workgroup and Homegroup

It's not something I have any direct experience with but a quick read suggests to me that you will not need to do Much if any reconfiguration of the existing server

 

Good LAN party games?

Most of my suggestions have already been listed.

However, I found Swat4 to actually be a pretty fun LAN game, especially at smaller LAN parties.
