Windows 10: I have multiple greyed boxes in Facebook, even when trying to get in to my account - no...

I have used Facebook for years, no problems. Some months ago, I was looking for contacts from my first grammar school [Adams GS, Wem, Shropshire, UK], linked up and signed in, all appeared well, was finding out lots [this is going back to the 1960s], then I find everything greyed. I've looked for contacts with Facebook, no joy - all grey boxes! - looked at deleting Facebook so that I can re-register, cannot find the app.. I have not made any slurs, radical comments etc., and do not use Facebook that much. I have Windows 11 and UI am stuck!! What can I do, please? Ross

A grey box appears then disappears when signing into microsoft account


I have the same problem and same grey box. After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7, it seems Windows just automatically took the local logon from Win7 during the install. Never asked me for my Microsoft account. So I find out with the local account there is a lot I can not do. I cannot "Sign in with Microsoft account instead" - get big grey box, that disappears. I cannot add another new user account - same grey box. Cannot use the Store. Cannot sync. Cannot use Cortana, etc.

I've searched the Internet for hours, and find that so many people are having this same problem. This is definitely a Microsoft issue. A very few have solved the problem but those steps don't work for my computer. One person's fix was getting the latest update. That didn't work for me either. Someone must have a fix. Maybe an adjustment in the Registry. I'm getting very frustrated.

Please try the following steps:

[*]Force the phone to sync with Facebook and your Microsoft account (formerly known as Windows Live ID):

• On your phone, go to Start, flick left to App list, tap Settings

• Tap and hold Facebook and tap Sync.

[*]Make sure your Microsoft account / Windows Live account has Facebook as a "connected service."

• On your computer, go tohttp://profile.live.com/services?view=manage,
  and sign in to the Microsoft account (formerly known as Windows Live ID) that you use on the phone.
• If this is your first time connecting Facebook to your Microsoft account, follow these steps:
  • Click Manage your accounts.
  • Click Facebook from a screen that displays other social network services.
  • In the list of check boxes, make sure that you select See my Facebook friends and their updates in Messenger, and
    Chat with my Facebook friends in Messenger.
  • Click Connect with Facebook.
  • From the pop-up window, click Allow.
• If your Microsoft account is already connected to Facebook but you want to edit your settings:
  • From the Your connected Services page, click Edit Facebook settings.
    
  • In the list of check boxes, make sure to select See my Facebook friends and their updates
    and Chat with Facebook friends.
  • Click Save.

If the issue persists after trying the above steps, then I suggest that you perform a hard reset of your phone. Please create a backup of your phone first so that you can easily restore your phone after. Here are instructions:

After the hard reset, add your Facebook account again and see if you receive the push notifications.

How do i rid of the grey box in the top left of my desktop?

It's odd for a random grey box to show up on your desktop after the last update occurred on your computer. It could also be a software installed on your computer that's causing for it to appear. However, let us not assume anything yet until we isolated your
concern by providing the answers to these questions:

• Did you start noticing the grey box after or prior the latest update?
• What were the updates that have been installed on your computer?
• Have you installed any software prior to the issue?
• What are the troubleshooting steps you've tried to resolve your concern?
• Can you provide us a screenshot of the grey box?

In the meantime, we suggest that you create a new user profile and see if the issue persists on it. Here is the
