  2. how to fix Black screen on game launch

    Hi, Jose Merced

    Welcome to the MicroSoft Community.

Experiencing a black screen when launching games can be frustrating. Here are a few potential solutions to try:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause issues with game launches. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific graphics card model.
    2. Verify Game Files: If the issue persists with multiple games, it's worth verifying the integrity of the game files. Steam, for example, provides a feature to verify the integrity of game files. Go to your game library, right-click on the game, select "Properties," go to the "Local Files" tab, and click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files." This will compare your game files with the official versions and repair any corrupted files.
    3. Disable Fullscreen Optimization: Some users have reported that disabling fullscreen optimization can resolve black screen issues. Right-click on the game's executable file or shortcut, select "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, and check the box for "Disable fullscreen optimizations." Click "Apply" and then launch the game again.
    4. Adjust Graphics Settings: Try lowering the graphics settings within the game. Sometimes, high graphics settings can overload the system and cause black screen issues. Reduce settings like resolution, texture quality, shadows, and anti-aliasing to see if it helps.
    5. Check for Hardware Issues: It's possible that your hardware, such as the graphics card or monitor, may be causing the black screen. Ensure that your graphics card is properly seated in its slot and that all cables are securely connected. If possible, try connecting your monitor to a different port or using a different cable to rule out any hardware-related issues.

If none of these solutions work, it may be helpful to contact the game's support team for further assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps or patches available for known issues.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

  3. How to fix monitors going black when playing games?

    Hi,Lewis Mason2

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    2. Based on what you've described, it may be due to a monitor switching issue caused by the game loading. Here are some suggestions that may help to resolve this issue:

Check monitor settings: Make sure your monitor settings are correct, especially the resolution and refresh rate. Sometimes two monitor settings with mismatched resolutions can cause display issues.

Plug both monitors into separate graphics cards and watch for a black screen during game play, if one is fine and one is black then there is a compatibility issue with the monitors.

If both monitors are fine, look at the game settings: check for full screen and windowed mode options in the game. Try running the game in windowed mode and see if it behaves differently.

Update graphics card drivers: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Old or corrupt drivers can cause display issues. If you have one plugged into the Solo socket and one plugged into the socket that came with your motherboard, there may be compatibility issues.

Check the game settings: Look in the game settings to see if there are any options regarding multi-monitor support and try adjusting those settings.

    Yours sincerely

  4. Issue with graphics drivers and/or monitor causing black screen on startup of certain games...

Selecting Startup settings in a recovery reboot causes a black screen

Here's what I did in order (windows 10)

Held shift and selected restart in the start menu

Screen said please wait... and booted up the recovery screen

I selected Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Startup Settings, then clicked Restart

After restarting, it just had a black screen for several minutes. I tried pressing F4 because I was trying to use Safe Mode. Pressing F4 didn't boot up Safe Mode, so I'm assuming that not only was the display black, but it didn't reach the Startup Settings menu after restarting.

I had to force shut down my PC. I booted it up again as normal and it was fine. But yeah, can't do those steps I listed because it caused a black screen. My PC was still running normally during this time. (By this I just mean that fans were on, my cooler was pumping liquid etc)

TYPE OF BLACK SCREEN EXEPERIENCED: The screen itself was not lighting up black, but instead my screen was black because the monitor was in standby (meaning no input was detected by my monitor, so the screen looked like how it looks when it's off)

Causes? Solutions? I reset my computer a couple of weeks ago. I doubt my GPU's drivers are already corrupted, I use NVIDIA and I do a custom install, selecting clean install of my graphics driver and I only install the graphics driver and no other junk drivers NVIDIA provides. If my GPU drivers are somehow corrupt and I need to uninstall them using DDU for example, I do need Safe Mode in order to do so, which as I mentioned I cannot access.
