  1. Unable to enable Intel Performance Monitoring Hardware in a Hyper-V virtual machine

I created a minimal Hyper-V VM with default parameters only disabled nested virtualization, booting to an Archlinux ISO and followed the steps from:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/manage/performance-monitoring-hardwareBut when I try to start the VM with any Perfmon features enabled, like Set-VMProcessor Arch -Perfmon @"pmu" I get the following error:"The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state of 'Arch' 'Arch' failed to start.'Arch' could not initialize.Failed to create partition: The hypervisor could not perform the ope

  2. Hyper-V and Intel Virtualization

I am running Windows 10 (build 16299) on a Dell XPS 15 9550. When I enable the Intel virtualization technology and install
Hyper-V the laptop blue screens on startup every time. The only way to recover it is to disable the Intel VT in the BIOS. I can then start the machine but can't use Hyper-V as it needs the Intel
VT. I can then uninstall Hyper-V and re-enable Intel VT and everything is still fine. What I can't do is use both, which I need to do.

I've seen a few suggestions, but none of them work. The only suggestion I haven't tried is removing my virus checker, which simply isn't an option.

    Can anyone help?

  3. What is the Difference Between Hyper-V and CPU/Hardware Virtualization?

Hi The! My name is David. I am a user of Microsoft products like you, and it is a pleasure to greet you.

To clarify, Hyper-V and CPU/hardware virtualization are related but distinct concepts:

    1. CPU/Hardware Virtualization: This refers to a feature in your computer's CPU that allows the creation of virtual machines. It is a hardware capability provided by the processor. To use any type of virtualization software effectively, including Hyper-V, this feature needs to be enabled in the BIOS or UEFI firmware of your computer.

    2. Hyper-V: Hyper-V is a virtualization platform developed by Microsoft. It allows you to create and manage virtual machines. It's a software layer that relies on hardware virtualization features of the CPU. Hyper-V can be thought of as the interface and toolset that utilizes CPU virtualization capabilities to create and manage virtual machines.

    Regarding your specific questions:

    1. Enabling Hyper-V and CPU Virtualization: Enabling Hyper-V in Windows does not automatically enable CPU virtualization in the BIOS/UEFI. These are separate actions. For Hyper-V to function correctly, CPU virtualization must be enabled in the BIOS/UEFI.

    2. Using Hyper-V Without CPU Virtualization Enabled: If you were able to turn on Hyper-V without enabling CPU virtualization, it likely means that your CPU supports virtualization but it wasn't explicitly enabled in the BIOS/UEFI. Some systems have this enabled by default. However, performance and functionality might be limited or not work as expected.

    3. Automatic VM Creation with Hyper-V: Turning on Hyper-V does not automatically create a virtual machine. It simply enables the capability to create and manage VMs. You need to manually create a VM using Hyper-V Manager or PowerShell commands.

In summary, while Hyper-V is a software tool for creating and managing virtual machines, CPU/hardware virtualization is a prerequisite hardware feature that needs to be enabled for Hyper-V to function properly. They work in tandem but are enabled and managed separately.

I hope this helps clarify the differences and how these technologies interact. Let me know if the shared information has been helpful. Regards.

  4. Unable to enable Intel Performance Monitoring Hardware in a Hyper-V virtual machine

How to maximize a running game window in hyper-v virtual machine ?

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

You can try adjusting the screen resolution on the virtual machine to match the resolution of your host machine. You can also try enabling "Seamless mode" in the Hyper-V settings for the virtual machine, which will allow the virtual machine's window to be resized and will make it appear as if the application is running directly on the host machine. Additionally, you can try using the "Enhanced Session Mode" which will allow you to have better graphics and sound performance on the virtual machine.

Here are the steps to enable "Seamless mode" in Hyper-V settings:

Open the Hyper-V Manager on your host machine.

Right-click on the virtual machine that you want to enable Seamless mode for, and select Settings.

In the left pane, select "Integration Services".

Check the box next to "Seamless Mode" and then click OK.

Once you have completed these steps, the virtual machine should be in Seamless mode and the virtual machine's applications should appear as if they are running directly on the host machine.

Please note that some application may not work with this feature.

    Regards
