  1. Windows update cause Task Manager to require elevation to open

Windows update is causing this error to occur every time I try to open Task Manager:I actually have to go into the ststem32 folder, and Run Task Manager as Admin to be able to open this at all.Previously, I identified that Windows Update KB5054811 that was causing this. Uninstalling this update fixes the issue. However, after the more recent update KB5060842, the same issue pops back up. Anyone knows what might be causing this? I can't keep uninstalling/blocking updates.

  2. Windows 10 Task Manager is auto elevating

    Hello Avi,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

Task Manager displays the programs, processes, and services that are currently running for all users on your computer. So, if you are logged in to the computer using a Administrator User account, you will notice that task Manager will open without any UAC
    prompts.

So, I suggest you to check if the Task Manager still runs in Auto Elevated mode when logged in to the computer using a Standard User Account.

Write to us with the updated information and we would be happy to help you.

    Thank you.

  3. Scheduled tasks run with elevated privileges can't access stored Windows credentials

It seems that after Creators update scheduled tasks run with elevated privileges ('run with highest privileges' option) can't access stored Windows credentials. Is that a bug or an intentional change and is there a recommended workaround?

Here's one way to reproduce the behaviour:

    • Start Credential Manger and add some Windows share credentials.
    • In a console window type 'cmdkey /list', which should list the added credentials
    • Create a task in a task manager:
      • Trigger: on user logon
      • Action: run cmd.exe
      • Tick the 'run with highest privileges' option
    • Reboot the machine and log in
    • In the console window (let's call it 'console 1') opened from the scheduled task type 'cmdkey /list'. This most likely won't display the credentials added in step 1 and properly listed in step 2. ->
      This looks like a bug
    • Now, without closing 'console 1' open another console window as an administrator (let's call it 'console 2') and type 'cmdkey /list'. This will properly list credentials added in step 1.
    • Switch to 'console 1' and type 'cmdkey /list' again. This time the credentials are listed properly, unlike in step 5. It looks like an access to Windows credentials was somehow 'unlocked' by step 6.

  4. Windows update cause Task Manager to require elevation to open

Windows 10 settings, and task manager wont open.

My Command (admin) will not open. Command will not open, task manager will not open. All since upgrade to creator edition yesterday.

Since I CANNOT get to Command prompt (admin) none of the above solution will work, obviously.

    what next? format c:\*.*?????

There is a solution out there somewhere, right????
