Windows 10: Why does my second display stop working when laptop is shut?

I already tried using the display F key to try all the resulting menu options. This issue occurred after a Windows update last night. I can't keep my laptop open due to the desk setup I have. Additionally, the resolution only fits my second display screen when the laptop screen is shut off. This additional issue was a problem before the Windows update, and has continued.

• Under Multiple displays, click on Duplicate these displays and apply.

Display Driver Keeps stops working everytime i shut down laptop

I'm using Windows 8.1 and since last night everytime i shut down my laptop and start again display drivers stops working and then i have to uninstall and reinstall intel display driver again for them to start working again.

i don't know what to do and have no idea how to fix it

any help is appreciated
