  1. Accidentally edited previously tracked registry key for previous installation, am I safe?

Recently, I found a directory in my registry that seemed to have been recorded a while ago. I have accidentally changed it to match my current system information although it was recorded 1/10/25, and I released this just now.To mention, this only happened a while ago. I couldn't remember what was there previously from keys BuildLab and BuildLabEx in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Source OS Updated on 1/10/2025 14:56:02, is it safe to leave it?And, for those wondering, to analyze in more detail, this is my system information:Make and Model: Hewlett-Packard, 14-cf2111wmOnline ope

    ATITool registry key

    Hello,

During ATITool installation, the following registry key was added to my registry:

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{85b5ddd0-e090-4b15-bdf2-a443a3ca0b66}"

After uninstalling the program, this key remained. I tried to delete it through the registry editor but it returned the following error:

"Cannot delete {85b5ddd0-e090-4b15-bdf2-a443a3ca0b66}: Error while deleting key."

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit by the way. I also tried to change permissions for the key and deleting in safe mode, but neither of those worked either.

Any ideas on how i can remove this key? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Registry editing

    Hello,

This issue may have occurred after one of the following situations:

    • You upgrade the Windows operating system.
    • You install or uninstall CD or DVD recording programs.
    • You uninstall Microsoft Digital Image.

Given that, we suggest performing the methods in this article:
Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs
    .
The resolutions that are listed in that article may help solve some instances but not all instances of this problem.

Important:This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
    article.

Feel free to update us with the results.
