Windows 10: Transferring windows pro license from physical hardware to VM.

The intended machine started as a Windows 10 Home computer. Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro Retail I still have the key and I registered it with Microsoft around a year ago. A couple of days ago I updated it to Windows 11 Pro. On the same machine where windows currently resides I plan to install Proxmox and WIndows 11 pro as a virtual machine. Do I need to deactivate the current license to allow it to be assigned to the VM when I create it? Are there any other steps to achieve this process?Thanks

Can a Physical Server and a VM Server coexist with the same license?

We have a client that has recently cloned their physical 2012 server, running Parallels, to a VM server. They want to use this VM server as fall back when and if that physical server goes down. This VM will only be turned once the physical server is down allowing remote users to log in. Can this be done? Our concern is with Windows licensing and what issues may arise with having both servers on at the same time if needed.

Can both coexist with the same license, or do we need to purchase a new license?

 

Licensing Legacy Windows Products on a VM Server

Hello,

Can someone from Microsoft confirm what licenses would be needed to fit the following use case:

• Need to license legacy as well as current Windows products (XP, 7, 10)
  
• The VMs will only have one user account that gets used, but would be utilized by multiple developers in our org
  
• The VMs would be hosted on a physical server and would be accessed through RDP
