Windows 10: duplicate screen bug, screen duplicates for 1 second then reverts to extend

my hdmi cord running from my laptop to tv was working fine but one day it simply stopped. I updated my drivers, used win-key+P and forced changed the screens to duplicate, and uninstalled recent windows update and restarted my pc and nothing. The tv will show the duplicated screen for 1 second then swap back on its own. If anything, windows should simply let the screens stay duplicated until the 13 seconds are up for you to confirm settings instead of giving up instantly and not letting me do anything about it. Everything I see on this issue is like 3 years ago and nothing seems to work.

Duplicate and extend screen at same time

Hi, i have 4 screens connected with my laptop. I am trying to duplicate the laptop screen on 3 screens and extend on 1. Under display settings it only gives the option to duplicate desktop on 2 screens. How can duplicate the desktop on 3 screens and at same time extend to one screen?

1. When you say “stop the duplicating” do you want to extend the screen or do you want to keep only the PC screen?
   
2. What is the version of Windows that you are using currently?

You can choose how you want the desktop to display. You can press the Windows logo key +
P and select an option.

Types of Display Modes in Windows 10 for settings up dual monitors:

• PC screen only - The second screen is ignored and only the main display is used.
• Duplicate - The main display is mirrored on the second screen.
• Extend - The main display is extended across the two screens and allows you to have a desktop that spans two screens or to use Metro on one screen and the desktop on the other.
• Second screen only - The main display will be disabled and only the second screen is used as your new main display.

Multiple Displays - keep switching between extend and duplicate on their own

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Every few minutes, the system switches between extend and duplicate.

When it does this, the position of the second screen reverts back to the default (second screen on the right side of the main, screen 1).

How can I stop this random and very distracting bug?

The conversion from 7 to 10 kept the Dell "PowerNap" software that came with the second screen.
