I am currently trying to change the location of the downloads from the C drive to the D drive. Is it safe to make a new folder in the D drive and change the location to that?

  2. how to move file folders from C drive to D drive

Hi, James. I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

Please provide some more detail on what you are trying to do. Which folders do you want to move to drive D?

If you want to move the Documents, Photos, Videos, and Downloads from drive C to drive D, you can use this procedure.

Step 1: Create the folders on the drive D

    1-Open the File Explorer

2-Click on "This PC" and open the drive D

3-Right-click on an empty area and select New > Folder

4-Enter the name for the folder like Documents, Photos, Videos, and Downloads

    Step 2: Move the folder

    1-Open the File Explorer

2-Right-click on the folder that you want to move (I.g Documents) and click on Properties

    3-Click on the "Location" tab

    4-Click on the "Move..." button

5-Select the correct folder on the drive D, click on "Select Folder" then click on Apply and Ok

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

my d drive and downloads folder is the same folder???

my d drive is the same folder as my downloads folder and the important things I have in my d drive are now in the same place as my downloads and it's bad because sometimes I almost remove things that are important because I forget that my d drive and downloads
folder are the same. Like I have a bunch of folders there that I've almost deleted numerous of times because I think im in the downloads folder and that it's just a copy of the original folder and then I remember that I'm on the actual drive. And it's really
hard to clean out my stuff because I don't know what is what. Like sometimes I don't know if the file or folder in there is something that is downloaded and that I don't need or something important. I don't remember how this happened but I think that I was
trying to make my d drive my main drive and one some way I changed the location of the drive to my downloads folder. Because I wanted the things I download to go into the d drive folder and not the c drive because I use that one for programs but I didn't want
my downloads folder to be my d drive!

Is there any way to change it so my downloads folder is my downloads folder and that my d drive is somewhere else again?

move download folder to other drive in windows 10

You can move your Downloads folder, in fact you can move any of your library folders, but it has to be done in a specific way to avoid conflicts. I have moved all my Library folders moved to my data drive, and I keep my SSD for the OS and Application

    • Open File Explorer, right click your Downloads folder and choose Properties
    • Click on the Location Tab
    • Type a new location into the box provided

NOTE: you must provide the new location in the form of a folder for example D:\Downloads

Many users have made the mistake of just entering D:\ and expect the downloads folder to be created automatically, this is not the case and their files and folders have ended up all over their D drive
