No Sound/Audio in Dell Laptop

Hello Guys, I have a relatively new laptop (7 months old) I did a windows update today and after that laptop audio says no audio hardware found. There is X symbol on audio in notification tray. I did the usual uninstall reinstall etc no use. I go to device manager and I don't see the sound tab to expand. Under system devices, there is a error for Intel Audio system Bus. when I right click sound and click playback, I don't see any devices listed either. What would be my next troubleshooting step, please help Thanks

 

Sound Problem. Laptop Audio is not working

From the description provided, I understand that Windows is unable to configure audio configuration for your computer after upgrading to Windows 10.

I would suggest you to follow the below recommended methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1

I would suggest you to connect a earphone or headphone and check if you are able to hear through them. If not, then run the built in Audio troubleshooter which should be able to detect and fix most of the audio issues.

Follow these steps to run the Windows in built troubleshooter:

a) Write Troubleshooting in the search box and hit enter.

b) Click on Troubleshooting
tab.

c) Click on view all option on the upper left corner.

d) Select the Hardware and Device
options from the list.

e) Click Next to run the Hardware and Device
Troubleshooter.

Method 2

Right click on the "volume" icon in the system tray and click on the playback devices. Check if the 'Speaker' is set as the default device, if not, right click and select 'Set as default'.

If you don't have a sound icon in the System Tray, follow the below steps.

• Right Click on the Start Menu
• Select Control Panel
• Click on Hardware and Sound
• Select Sound

- Set the current speakers you are using to "Default Device"

- Disable all other audio devices.

- If possible, re-configure the speakers you are using (using the "Configure" button).

If the above recommendation did not help, I would suggest you to refer to the manufacturer's/computer assembler website to download and install latest drivers available on Windows 10.

Audio appears to work, but I hear no sound

Audio appears to work, but I hear no sound. The volume mixer shows when there is sound, but no sound comes out of speakers. When I look at sound, I can test the speakers and they work. But when I changes the Intel Display Audio to the speakers, there
is nothing. I can change the default to Speakers and to Realtek Digital Audio, but I get no sound. If I leave it on Intel Display Audio, I can see the audio but I hear nothing. This all worked find yesterday, but I added a second display and now the sound
doesn't work. Removed second display, sound still doesn't work. Tried removing and reinstalling audio driver. No difference. Tried rebooting several times, no difference.
