  1. WIndows memory diagnostic tool and Startup settings

WIndows memory diagnostic tool. I have read so many complaints about this tool, I wonder why Microsoft continue to include it in Windows. After I ran the tool when no problems were found, my startup settings were totally destroyed. To get back to my settings I needed to disable microsoft account and password requirement which had appeared after running the tool. To do this I needed to sign in to my microsoft account and then retrieve a verification code from my Outlook email. Then I discovered I cannot receive the email from Microsoft. How can I get my old startup settings back? System: Window

  2. Windows memory diagnostic tool not Working in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We are glad to help you.

We recommend that you let the Memory Diagnostics Tool run automatically. However, advanced users might want to adjust the tool's settings. Here's how:

    • When the Memory Diagnostics Tool starts, press F1.
    • You can adjust the following settings:
      • Test mix. Choose what type of test you want to run: Basic, Standard, or Extended. The choices are described in the tool.
      • Cache. Choose the cache setting you want for each test: Default, On, or Off.
      • Pass count. Type the number of times you want to repeat the test.
    • Press F10 to start the test.
If the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool doesn't run automatically, you can run it manually.

    • Open Memory Diagnostics Tool by going to Control Panel. In the search box, type Memory, and then click Diagnose your computer's memory problems.

How can I escape windows memory diagnostics tool?

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It sounds like your laptop is stuck in a loop after running the Memory Diagnostics Tool, which can be quite frustrating. Let's go through a series of steps to try and resolve this issue on your Windows 11 system.

Step 1: Force Shutdown and Restart

You've mentioned turning it on and off a couple of times, but make sure to do a force shutdown if you haven't already. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the laptop completely shuts down. Wait for a few seconds, then turn it back on.

    Step 2: Enter Safe Mode

If the normal startup leads to the same loop, you'll need to try entering Safe Mode to bypass the issue.

    1. Interrupt the Boot Process: As soon as the laptop starts booting, press and hold the power button to force shutdown. Repeat this process 2-3 times. On the third restart, Windows should enter the Automatic Repair environment.
    2. Navigate to Safe Mode:
      • In the Automatic Repair window, select Advanced options.
      • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings.
      • Click Restart, and after the restart, you will see a list of options. Press the number corresponding to Enable Safe Mode (usually 4).
Step 3: Check for Errors and Perform Clean Boot

    Once in Safe Mode:

    • Check the Event Viewer for any specific errors related to the Memory Diagnostics Tool or system errors around the time the issue began. Access the Event Viewer by pressing Windows Key + R, typing eventvwr.msc , and hitting Enter. Look under Windows Logs > System.
    • Perform a Clean Boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help eliminate software conflicts.
      • Press Windows Key + R, type msconfig , and press Enter.
      • In the System Configuration window, select the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
      • Go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, and disable all startup items.
      • Restart your computer normally.
      • Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.
    Step 4: System Restore

If you can access Safe Mode, and the issue persists, consider performing a System Restore to revert your system back to a state before the issue began.

    • In Safe Mode, search for Create a restore point in the Start menu and open it.
    • Go to the System Protection tab and click System Restore.
    • Follow the prompts to select a restore point before the problem started.
    Step 5: Windows Recovery Options

If none of the above steps work, you might need to consider more drastic measures such as Resetting your PC or Using a Windows Installation Media to perform a repair install. These options can be found under Troubleshoot > Reset this PC or Advanced options > Startup Repair in the Automatic Repair environment.

    Important:

    • Back up your data if possible before performing system resets or reinstallation to avoid data loss.
    • If you're not comfortable performing these steps or if the issue persists, it might be best to consult with a professional technician.
If you have any further questions or need more detailed instructions on any of the steps, feel free to ask.

    Best regards
