Windows 10: Jar files not downloading properly with file explorer. Windows 11

Unable to download jar executable files, as jar executables.They always download as Microsoft edge or my other browser Firefox.I’ve tried a good amount of forums and trouble shooting but still can’t seem to just get it as a jar file with out having to download another app.This was never an issue before until now. Not sure if this is a new thing with windows or what.Yes I do have the latest version of windows and Java installed.

I understand that .jar files opens in Internet Explorer by default and downloads again on Windows 10. I will certainly help you.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it resolves the issue.

1. Right click on the .jar file, select Open with
and click on Choose another app.

2. Select the app you want to open the .jar file from list.

3. If required, highlight the app and check the option
Always use this app to open, click OK.

.java to .jar file

As a side note to Easy Rhinos comment, you can only jar .class files, meaning that you need to compile all the .java files and them jar the .class files resulting from the compilation. Example:

I have the same problem, I accidentaly switched a .jar file to open with internet explorer, or notepad, I can't remember, and I forgot to unselect set it to the default, and now I can't get back to the java thing, please help.
