Hi, I’m facing an issue with my SSD Drive D where Windows reports “Disk Full” during certain operations, even though there is more than enough free space.System detailsDrive D SSD shows “Disk Full” during large file operations despite plenty of free space :Drive D is a 214 GB SSD formatted as NTFSI usually have 80–110 GB free space on this driveRunning latest version of Windows 11Problem:I try installing a game through Steam that is around 66 GB in size. Steam estimates 76 GB required including temp files, and initially, the installation starts fine. Drive D shows ~4 GB remaining, which is expected. However, after some time 10–15% download, the drive space suddenly drops to

Windows 10 version 1803 - low disk space drive "D" - other files

I'm getting a low disk space error for drive "D".

I've cleared out everything I can find, but the majority of the space is being used by a category "Other". I've tried clicking and right clicking - but I can't get any additional information on what "Other" is.

When I open drive "D" from file explorer - there are no files or folders displayed.

Plenty of space on drive "C".

How can I fix the low disk space on drive "D"?

  3. Out of disk space on Local Disk (DDrive D SSD shows “Disk Full” during large file operations despite plenty of free space :) - April update

Thanks for clarifying. I thought you'd benefit by having all possible things to be done to manage Windows on smaller drives.

However your latest screenshots show that you have a large drive with plenty of free space on C.

The issue is that something has written itself into the D drive which is why it would report being full. Only the bootable repair tools (which were on C in previous Windows editions) should be on the D drive. It should also not have a letter, which is how another
program likely has sneaked in to write to it.

If you'll unhide Hidden files in File Explorer > View tab > Options > Change Folder and Search option > View > Show Hidden files, and uncheck the box to Hide Protected Operating System Files, then post back a screenshot of D we can help you remove the unneeded
files so you can again hide the files and also remove the Drive letter from D in Disk Management.

Drive D SSD shows “Disk Full” during large file operations despite plenty of free space

Not enough space on Recovery (DDrive D SSD shows “Disk Full” during large file operations despite plenty of free space :) drive.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Please help me with the following:

    1. What is the make and model number of your Computer?

Please note that recovery "D" is a partition on the hard drive which contains the image of the Operating system. You can use it to restore the computer back to factory settings. You should not attempt to store files in it.
If you have any data saved on the D drive, I would suggest you to move it to an external drive and to free up some space, you can follow the steps provided in the article:
Free up drive space in Windows 10.

If you are using a HP computer, then you can refer to this article:
HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - What is the Recovery (DDrive D SSD shows “Disk Full” during large file operations despite plenty of free space :) Hard Drive?

    Hope this helps.
