Windows 10: File Type Question

My laptop was acting wonky a few days back and while attempting to move a file on my desktop, I'd highlighted the file and suddenly a bunch of files were highlighted and when I tried to remove the highlighting, everything disappeared. Not in the Recycle Bin and I couldn't locate the files anywhere on my hard drive. Lost. When searching for a specific file name, though, this list of three shortcuts appeared along with a file type I don't recognize with the Earth icon next to it. Can anyone tell me what that file type is? I've pretty much given up on ever recovering the lost documents but would

Cortana works fine with microphone, but not by typing question.

  Does this issue occur only when you connect Microphone or without connecting Microphone?
  

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1:

• 
  Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  
• 
  Click File > Run New Task.
  
• 
  Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  
• 
  Type Powershell
  
• 
  Type the following in the Powershell prompt:
  
  $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
  
• 
  Close the Powershell window.
  
• 
  Reboot the computer and check if it helps.
  

If the issue persist, follow the below step.

Step 2:

• 
  Press ‘Windows + X’ Keys on the keyboard.
  
• 
  Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ to bring up an elevated command prompt.
  
  Note: Click ‘Yes’ if it prompts for permission.
  
• 
  In the command prompt type in the following commands one by one and then press
  Enter.
  

sfc /scannow

Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth



Note: If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details
are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)”
to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

If the issue persist, follow the below step.



Step 3:

This issue may occur if user account is corrupted. I suggest you to create new user account and check if it helps. Follow the below link

How to change default app for file type

@Bree - yes, I'm quite aware of this thanks, but as you will see it's missing. I recall reading that clicking the dialogue at a certain point in blank space made it appear, and trying that once successfully, but doesn't seem to help now. Plenty of other similar reports of this option being missing.

We don't even know for sure exactly where your original disk is or what method you have used, so no point suggesting data recovery methods yet.
